Dr. Hsueh-Shih Chen earned his PhD in 2009 from the University of Cambridge, UK. Before that, he was a researcher and principal investigator at ITRI (2000–2006), developing fluorescent quantum dots for display applications. He later held research positions at AIST, Japan (2009), and the University of Birmingham, UK (2012).

Since 2013, Dr. Chen has been a faculty member at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), becoming vice department chair in 2018, tenured professor in 2019, and chair of the PhD program in the College of Engineering. He also serves as a professor at the College of Semiconductor Research, a distinguished research advisor at ITRI, and an honorary guest professor at Yuan-Ze University.

He directs the Taipei Chapter of SID, advises the NTHU ECS Chapter, and serves on national industrial research committees. His work focuses on quantum dot industrialization and commercialization. As a co-founder of four quantum dot companies, he specializes in QD production, QD film manufacturing, mini-LED and micro-LED solutions, and IP management.
